Weather & Emergency Closure Policy

Our Commitment to Our Community

At The Dayton Playhouse, our community is at the heart of everything we do. The safety of our patrons, volunteers, artists, staff, and neighbors will always come first. This Weather & Emergency Closure Policy explains how we respond when severe weather or declared emergencies may affect performances, rehearsals, auditions, meetings, or other events.

We know live theatre depends on trust — and that trust includes making thoughtful, cautious decisions when conditions are uncertain.

Our Guiding Principles

  • People before performances. No show, rehearsal, or meeting is worth risking injury or harm.

  • Clarity matters. We make decisions as early as possible to give everyone time to plan.

  • Local guidance leads the way. We follow recommendations from local authorities and emergency management officials.

  • Consistency builds trust. Our decisions are made using clear, established criteria and communicated openly.

Weather Conditions Covered

This policy applies to weather or emergency situations including, but not limited to:

  • Snow and ice storms

  • Flooding, including river and roadway flooding

  • Any declared local or county-level weather or emergency event

Montgomery County (Ohio) Weather & Snow Emergencies

When Montgomery County is placed under any level of Snow Emergency or Weather Emergency, or when the Five Rivers Metro Parks (including Wegerzyn Garden Center) are closed, the following will apply:

All Dayton Playhouse performances, rehearsals, auditions, meetings, and events will be canceled.

This decision applies regardless of the emergency level designation.

Why We Take a Conservative Approach

Our artists, audiences, and volunteers travel from across the region — often at night and in challenging weather. By adopting a conservative approach, we aim to reduce risk, eliminate confusion, and ensure everyone can return home safely.

How We Communicate Closures

If an event is canceled, we will share information as quickly and clearly as possible through:

  • The Dayton Playhouse website

  • Official social media channels

  • Email communication, when applicable

When relevant, ticketing, exchange, or rescheduling information will be included with cancellation announcements.

Thank you for being part of The Dayton Playhouse family and for helping us keep our community safe.
